About the artist

Born in 1968 in Hungary Gabor Szabo has immigrated to the United States in 1988. During a childhood near-death incident he had an out-of-body-experience which has determined early on his perspective on life and the road to self-discovery has begun.

During his carrier as an illustrator he has met numerous influential and talented artists who inspired him to pursue the fine art field. His childhood passion for drawing has evolved into the thought provoking subject matter of his paintings. His controversial works reflect his perception of today’s society, while other paintings are just colorful projections of his inner creativity.

Gabor thinks that a person’s intellectual properties that are believed to be gained by study and hard work such as language, profession, artistic skills and mental achievements are actually not new acquisitions but are components of the individual that are uncovered from the darkness. Learning is nothing more but a step by step discovery of what a person has always possessed.

He believes that the creative mind is a receptor of ideas. Innovation does not necessarily mean that one has a new idea but rather that one has the capacity to capture possible ideas from the conscious universe. It is highly possible that there is nothing new but only newly discovered.

Besides expressing his thoughts with oil on canvas through his dynamic compositions Gabor also produces many popular acrylic paintings. The serene subject matters of these acrylics have the opposite effect on the observer by quieting the mind and unwinding the viewer.
